Fabric, Quilted, Coaster Tutorial

I'm back again with another tutorial, after the response from my first one I just needed to do another.

1. Because you guys cannot get enough of crafting DIY right now and

2. Because I love making this content for you

Today I have made 4 fabric coasters, all using scrap material I had at home and scrap wadding left over from some quilting projects.

This project is super easy and straight forward and only needs a few materials.

What you will need:

- fabric

- wadding

- contrasting cotton

- sewing machine

- ruler

- rotary cutter / scissors

- sewing pins

- two templates - 5x5 and 4x4 inches

Step 1:

Iron your fabric and smooth out any creases, you are going to need to measure out two 5"x5" squares

Step 2:

Once your 5"x5" squares are cut you will need your second template. Due to their not being any binding you need to iron in 1/4" of folded over fabric on each edge for a smooth finish.

I use the template to ensure its even the whole way around.

Step 3:

Trim your wadding to a 4" x 4" square, and sandwich between your two fabrics.

Using your sewing pins you will need to pin each edge to ensure there is no movement when sewing.

Step 4:

Take your mini coaster sandwiches to the machine and sew your first edge - remember to back-stitch and use the shortest stitch on your machine.

Sew very close to the edge of the fabric to secure.

Step 5:

Once you have sewn around all four edges, back-stitch and cut the threads. You will now need to sew a second line a 1/4" inwards from your last one.

And there you have it ... one very easy and simple coaster.

These can be made with all types of fabrics and you can even piece together different designs and have fun with different quilting lines like I have done below.

Have fun and let me know how you get on!
